SRINAGAR, MAY 29 (KNO) : Minister for Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation and Reconstruction and Floriculture, Javaid Mustafa Mir, directed officers to expedite the tendering process of upgradation of existing dewatering pumps in Srinagar here today.

The Minister said this while a chairing a meeting of officers to review the status of upgradation of existing 49 dewatering stations in Srinagar, which are going to be upgraded and taken into consideration of highest flood level (HFL) of 2014 floods, being funded by the World Bank. The meeting was attended by Financial Commissioner HUDD, KB Aggarwal, Secretary to Government, DDMR, Talat Parvez Rohella, SMC Commissioner, Riyaz Ahmed Wani, CEO JTRF, Vinod Sharma, Director Technical, Khalid Iqbal and other concerned were also present on the occasion. The meeting held a threadbare discussion on qualification criteria of tendering process for better competition and quality of work.

The Minister was briefed that proposed amendments regarding the upgradation project have been sent to the World Bank for its approval while the tender document contains pumping works and minor civil works, of which 80% work on the systems is of electromechanical nature. Besides, the officers informed that the upgradation work will first dismantle the existing dewatering pumps and will be shifted to adjacent place on a raised platform. It was further informed in the meeting that the nature of installation of pumping systems will be given to the highly technical persons for its better and timely installation.

For procurement of dewatering pumps, the Minister directed officers to ensure the quality of pumping system shall not be compromised with and also should be operational round-the-clock and particularly at times of eventualities. Mir further impressed upon the officers to work in synergy for early completion of the prestigious project. He also directed SMC commissioner to include the Banpora Nowgam- Padshahi Bagh drainage scheme in the World Bank project being a flood-prone area.
